Admission Criteria
In order to gain admission to The Pathfinder each client must be drug and alcohol free for a minimum of 72 hours. Potential clients must have either successfully completed an in-patient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program or be actively involved in an intensive outpatient program. Potential clients must be willing to make a commitment to remain sober and drug-free, follow house rules, accept responsibility for their behaviors, be financially responsible for their debts, and make active changes that lead to successful recovery from chemical addictions.
Because we are licensed by DMH/MR as a substance abuse provider, our clients must have a primary diagnosis of a drug or alcohol dependence in order to be accepted into the program. This diagnosis must be from a qualified mental health professional within the past 12 months. We cannot accept clients with a primary diagnosis of a mental illness or with severe medical conditions that require the immediate presence or constant attention of medical staff. Clients are often dually diagnosed and have co-occuring disorders with both an addiction and a treatable mental illness such as depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder. These clients are accepted as long as they are being successfully treated by a mental health professional. Clients who are dually diagnosed but are actively suicidal, homicidal or psychotic are not suitable for this environment.
Orientation Program
The Orientation phase is approximately a two-week program designed to help new clients make a positive transition into the Pathfinder or Stepping Stones programs. Clients are restricted to The Pathfinder facility while on orientation. Once the client completes specific and individualized goals in the Orientation phase, he/she progresses to the next level in the Pathfinder or Stepping Stones program. Clients are no longer on restriction to the property and they begin looking for employment. Clients earn additional privileges and freedoms in the program as they advance through the phases.
Admission Fees and Costs
As a non-profit agency, The Pathfinder program is funded through various different programs and means. Even though we are a United Way agency, less than 20% of our funding comes from donations made by the United Way. We are supported by various grants and donations from local, state, and federal programs. The Pathfinder also does fund raisers during the year to support our programs.
Clients also pay a small fee for the services provided to them. Clients are expected to find and maintain suitable employment during their stay as their way of supporting the program. The rates are as follows:
Admission, Intake, First Week: $200
Weekly Rent: $95
Clients are expected to stay a minimum of 90 days in order to successfully complete the program. Clients can request to stay up to an additional 12 months past the initial 90 day period. Many clients elect to take this option in order to save enough money to move out and get re-established and to strengthen their recovery plan.
